A few years ago, one of my friends and longtime artistic mentors asked me to create a gallery installation for the start of a brilliant summer arts program. She wanted it to give a natural history museum vibe, just filled to the brim with objects of wonder which were mostly from the natural world. We sourced objects from Susan’s personal collection, from artists within our community, and from our local scrounge sink. I led a small group of artists in meticulously curating the arrangements of objects for the young artists viewership. We installed them as if they were set within a museum of natural anthropology. The experience of transforming this space into a work of art was an enjoyable one for me. In erecting an installation work, a temporary space becomes a period in my life marked by whole dedication to creating something spectacular.
